What is Cloudways?

Cloudways is the world’s leading provider of VPS rental services, as well as VPS management services.

Cloudways offers Managed Cloud Hosting as a service.

Unmanaged Cloud Hosting (such as VULTR, Linode, DigitalOcean,…) is a traditional VPS rental service in which you are responsible for installing, optimizing, and managing the VPS you rent.

Installing and managing a VPS is difficult for those who are unfamiliar with the server or are not technically savvy.

Cloudways is the best option if you want to use VPS but don’t know how to install, optimize, or manage it. They handle everything from A to Asia, as long as you know how to “scratch the keyboard” to contact the Cloudways support team.

How to Create a Cloudways VPS Account

You will access Cloudways and then click GET STARTED FREE to begin.

You must enter the following details:

First and last name

First name

Email (Enter the email address you frequently use to confirm your account).

Choose the data that best suits you from the remaining cells.

Then, to proceed, remember to select I agree to the Cloudways… and click START FREE.

Cloudways will need to verify your account to activate your account due to a high volume of spam and fraud.

The system will send an email to Cloudways requesting account activation.

You will use the email address you registered with to send an email to av@cloudways.com with the subject line “New Account Activation” and something like “Hi Cloudways team, Could you help activate my account on Cloudways?”

Cloudways will automatically resend an email requesting the following information for identity verification:

Passport or driver’s license photocopy

Telephone number

Website or Facebook URL

Simply resend the email with the above information, and Cloudways will activate your account.

After activation and login to your Cloudways account,¬†click the “+” button and then Add Server.

To get the VPS up and running, you’ll need to enter some of the following information:

WordPress: simply select the most recent version.

Name your managed app: You can name the application whatever you want.

You can call your managed server whatever you want.

Name your project: You can name the project whatever you want.

Select a VPS home from DigitalOcean, Linode, VULTR, AWS, or Google CloudPlatform. I’m using DigitalOcean as an example.

Server size: select a server configuration; in this example, I’m using a VPS with 1GB of RAM.

Location: Select the server’s location; I’m demonstrating in Singapore.

At the bottom of the window, you will see the price for your chosen VPS, such as $10/month.

When finished, click the LAUNCH NOW button to start the VPS.

Please be patient while everything is installed and configured!

Following that, I’ll demonstrate how to migrate a WordPress website from another host to Cloudways and how to point a domain to Cloudways.

That’s it; your VPS is now operational.

You simply leave the website running normally on the old host and migrate it to Cloudways first; once the migration is complete, you can view the website on Cloudways without redirecting the domain.

After moving the website and ensuring that everything is in order, point the domain to Cloudways, which I will walk you through in the following steps.

To begin, log in to the WordPress admin page on the old host’s website and install the Cloudways WordPress Migrator plugin.

To begin, after activating the newly installed plugin, enter your email address and click the MIGRATE button.

You can view the results after moving the website by clicking Go to Cloudways or logging into your Cloudways account and selecting the Access Details section, then clicking on the link in the Application URL section to view.

After verifying that the website is operational on Cloudways, you can point your domain to VPS in order for the website to be officially operational on Cloudways.

How to Point a Domain to a Cloudways VPS

To point your domain to your new Cloudways website, follow these steps.

Return to the Cloudways page, then to the Domain Management section, and type the domain name into the Primary Domain box.

Then, to save, click Save Changes.

To change the DNS records, you must first log in to the domain administration page (such as Namecheap, Godaddy, etc.).

To point to the VPS’s IP address on Cloudways, you must edit or create an A record.

Installing an SSL certificate on a VPS Cloudways

Following that, I’ll show you how to install a free SSL certificate for your website using Let’s Encrypt on Cloudways.

Return to the Cloudways admin page and scroll down to the SSL Certificate section.

To install the SSL certificate, enter your email address and domain name, then click Install Certificate.

On Cloudways, the Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate is free for life; you only need to install it once, and the system will automatically renew it later.
